Tombstone Price - How much does a tombstone cost?

Tombstones are built from a wide variety of materials and types of stones. The work process includes, among other things, design work, transportation, installation and additional elements. All of these affect the final prices of tombstones. On our website you can choose the type of tombstone and design you want and enjoy a price range that varies depending on the type of tombstone you choose.
Here you can see what factors affect the prices of tombstones in Israel.

Tombstone Prices – The price of a tombstone can be calculated According to several factors:

1. The raw material

2. The work process

3. Transportation and installation of the tombstone

4. Caption

5. Additional elements

The raw material

The price of the raw material is determined by criteria such as the size of the quarry, its scope, and the rarity of the material from which it is quarried. For example, raw material for blue marble is very rare in nature, and therefore its price is more expensive than raw materials in more natural colors such as black or brown.

Quality of the raw material – The quality of each raw material is determined by its cleanliness and uniformity. Phenomena that can affect the price of the raw material are stains, cracks, veins and holes that detract from the beauty and quality of the raw material. Each raw material is classified according to its quality – the highest quality will be classified as “Type A”, after which raw materials will be classified as “Type B”, “Type C” and so on.

The price of quarrying – the machinery and equipment in the quarry affect the price of the raw material. For example, granite is often more difficult to carve than marble. In addition, the dimensions of the blocks that are quarried vary, which of course affects the price of the raw material. (Smaller sizes, blocks are cheaper).

Transportation of raw materials Transportation distance from the country of origin to Israel

Work process:

Where the work is done – Tombstone processing is cheaper in countries like China and India, compared to Italy or Spain where labor is more expensive.

Is the cut straight or round? What are the finishing levels, is it beveled or rounded?

Artistic elements – Are there artistic elements on the tombstone? Does the work require a simple worker for relatively simple work or a skilled hand for a much more complex job?

Transportation and installation

The price must be taken into account in relation to the distance of the raw material and where it is quarried, as the cost of shipping varies for each raw material. When the quarry originates in Israel, the shipping cost is reduced, compared to a quarry in Europe, the Far East or South America. However, there are cases in which the raw material can only be obtained from these places, and then the shipping price varies accordingly.

Engraved letters (60-70 letters) are usually included in the price of the tombstone . The price increases depending on the size of the letter and the price of the material. For example, cast lead letters are an additional 10 to 12 NIS per letter.

Copper letters or bronze letters connected by screws can cost about 25 to 30 NIS per small letter. A large bronze letter costs 150 NIS per letter. Making letters, a standard version in 21K gold, can cost about 2000 NIS or more.

Today there are forms of processing for writing on gravestone – From hand engraving, pantograph, sandblasting, to a computerized CNC machine. The use of each method affects the quality and level of finish of the engraved letter.

When determining a tombstone, request in advance the graphics for proofreading, as well as the layout of the inscription that will appear on the tombstone.

Important to know – it is important to review the graphics several times, and even confirm with additional parties. This method can avoid spelling errors or mistakes in numbers, dates, etc. Only after the final review do they sign the approval of the text for the tombstone.

Additional elements

Cast flower pot, marble flower pot, granite flower pot, single, double cast lantern (home for a soul candle), carved stone lantern with door, handmade picture, paintings, decorations, sculptures and unique reliefs.

responsibility

As part of calculating the price, the warranty on the tombstone is also calculated. It is important to know – when a warranty is given for the work, it is necessary to see that the creator of the tombstone has the financial ability to stand behind it.

Natural stones

Natural stone tombstones (or tombstones that incorporate natural stone) – Each natural stone is unique in the world and no other stone is the same. These types of stones are particularly rare or have rare characteristics (e.g. stalactite, quartz, blue color) and their price is also weighted by their weight and where in the world they come from.

Heavy stones

This type of stone requires a crane, the size of which affects the price: as the weight and lifting distance of the crane increase, the operating cost of the crane will increase. The price of a crane ranges from 800 to 3800 NIS.

fundamental

The base of the tombstone, the concrete, is usually made by Chevrot Kadisha.

The price of the foundation varies in each cemetery, and there may also be price changes from plot to plot within the same cemetery, due to the difference in the work required. The price of a concrete foundation comes out of the customer's pocket and is calculated separately from the price of the tombstone, but most often, cheruvat kadisha will ask the tombstone factories to pay, and not the customer. This is so as not to burden customers with returned checks, etc.

The price of the foundations for tombstones is between 350 -1000 NIS per tombstone. When the tombstone is a family tombstone, or for a couple (double), the amount will be doubled and will even be added to the price of "digging in life" (the preparation). Approximately 150-500 NIS.

When there is no foundation for a tombstone in the cemetery, the tombstone builder will charge approximately 600 to 1000 NIS for the tombstone. (Of course, manually creating one foundation is significantly more expensive than creating a foundation for an entire plot in the cemetery).
